Tata Electronics Buys 60% of Pegatron’s India Unit, Strengthens Ties with Apple

Tata Electronics, part of the Tata Group, has purchased a 60% share in Pegatron Technology India, the Indian branch of Taiwan’s Pegatron. This deal makes Tata a bigger player in Apple’s supply chain and shows how India is becoming more important in global electronics manufacturing.

Bigger Manufacturing Presence

Pegatron’s factory near Chennai makes iPhones and uses modern technology. With this deal, Tata Electronics now owns three major factories in southern India. This follows their earlier purchase of Wistron’s India operations in March 2024. Tata is now competing closely with Foxconn, another big iPhone maker in India.

Randhir Thakur, the CEO of Tata Electronics, shared why this is a big step, saying:

This helps us bring more innovation with AI, digital tools, and advanced manufacturing. It’s a new chapter for India’s electronics industry.

Apple’s New Strategy

Apple is working to reduce its dependence on China for making products because of political tensions. By growing its manufacturing in India, Apple is using the country’s growing skills and friendly business environment to keep its supply chain strong.

Approval and Impact

While the money involved in this deal hasn’t been shared, it has been approved by India’s Competition Commission. Experts believe this step makes Tata Electronics a key player in India’s electronics industry and strengthens its global reputation.

India’s Role in Tech

This deal highlights how India is becoming a key part of the world’s tech industry. Tata’s growing partnership with Apple shows that India is ready to be a leader in modern technology and manufacturing.

This purchase is not just good for Tata Electronics but also proves that India is rising as an important player in the global tech world—a future full of opportunities for the country and its leaders.
